About Us

I am Kate Eldridge and I have been running The Bead Cellar in beautiful Devon, UK, since November 2009, with the help of my mum Gill and our four-legged friends.   I moved down to Devon from London in 2009 and had been designing and making beaded jewellery for over 10 years prior to that.  What started out as a hobby gradually progressed into making pieces for friends as gifts and then some of those friends started telling me I should be selling items.   I love making jewellery using all kinds of beads, from all corners of the globe and you will see a simplistic elegance in my work, with just a touch of drama on occasion!  Most of my work would be classed as bead weaving but I also enjoy wirework, chaine maille and dabble in lampwork.   I sell the items I make at craft fairs and take commissions as well as designing projects for workshops and kits at The Bead Cellar and my designs have been published in a number of beading magazines.

After completing my Masters degree and working in travel for a number of years both in the UK and overseas I found my hobby becoming increasingly important to me  to the point that I started thinking about making a career and lifestyle change to start working for myself in the crafts retail sector.   Upon seeing an advert for the Bead Cellar in a periodical I had one of those life changing ‘well, I’ll give them a call and see what it’s all about...’ moments which lead to me owning and running The Bead Cellar in Devon.
